Hello guys,
I'm an absolute newbie here, welcome to my dental blog.
It's a nice platform, where I can be creative and at the same time, I can impart information and aid you with your dental problems. Legible language has been used so that, additionally it would be understandable for a layman person. You can address me as 'your dental compadre'.
SOME OF THE COMMON MYTHS ABOUT DENTISTRY🔎
- FLOSSING LEADS TO INCREASE IN INTERDENTAL GAPS:
This is one of the most common myths that has been extended over the years among common people. It's not the flossing, which is considered to be as 'culprit' but it's you and your incorrect technique, isn't it? Have you ever stood in front of mirror and asked yourself, am I performing the right technique? why did every single time I'd tried to floss my teeth and I'd got bleeding gums, why so?
It is mandatory to carry out the accurate "Flossing Technique" or else you'll hurt your gums, in consideration to it, will increase the interdental gap.
2. SCALING CAUSES LOOSENING OF TEETH:
Scaling and polishing, it comes under preventive measures as well as it can stand alone as a treatment line for gingivitis and periodontitis.
What is scaling?
It is a procedure, in which 'plaque and tartar', around the tooth gumline is removed and then the tooth surfaces are being polished. If this tartar is not removed in a timely manner, it causes gum recession (gingival recession) and pocket formation. Thus, weaking the tooth attachment with the gum.i.e. Periodontal ligament (PDL) weakening, in consideration of it causes loosening of teeth. Henceforth, it's your negligence, which is responsible for all further consequences and not the procedure itself.
3. OVER BRUSHING MAINTAINS GOOD ORAL HYGIENE:
I'll say a BIG NO to 'Overbrushing' routine. It's a misconception that has been dwelling in an individual's mind, since ages.
Detrimental effects of Overbrushing:
Gum recession.
Brushing too hardly can hurt your gum, leading to swollen gums and bleeding gums.
Teeth sensitivity.
Abrasion of the teeth.
Overbrushing, over the time could end up into loosening of teeth.
Ideal Brushing time is for atleast 2 minutes, twice a day, by using soft bristle tooth brush .i.e. according to ADA Specification (0.2mm) diameters of bristles brush.
4. CLOVE OIL REMOVES DENTAL CARIES/CAVITIES:
Clove oil may alleviate the tooth pain temporarily, but it's not the line of treatment, it won't cure the disease itself.
Dental caries, it is an 'irreversible process' in which demineralization of tooth structure takes place by some tooth-adherent cariogenic bacteria, that metabolizes sugar to produces acid - causing dental caries/cavities.
Detrimental effects of clove oil:
Irritation and burning sensation of oral mucosa.i.e. Chemical burn.
Mouth sores.
5. EXTRACTION OF WISDOM TOOTH CAUSES LOSS OF VISION (BLINDNESS):
It is an utter myth, wisdom tooth extraction or any other tooth extraction will not cause vision loss or blindness. As the nerves which supply eyes and teeth are different, so there is no correlation in them.
